MY ROLE IN MY COMMUNITY

FIRST I WAS BORN AS A SON

                                                                                                               LATER I BECAME A BROTHER
TO PASS ONTO THE NEXT  GENERATION

MY COMMUNITY MADE ME AN ACTIVIST

LIFE USHERED ME AS A FRIEND

Community to the majority of people means a place however it rarely means family. The
most fundamental instance in our lives where we are presented with this conundrum is
during our birth. As the saying goes “one does not choose the family one is born to”.
However, I am happy for my birth family and I keep on building my chosen family.
I call it “my chosen family” because as I move through the different facets of life
I continuously build new or reinforced old bonds with different kinds of people.

Chance and luck favored me to be fist born and into my role as a son.
My parents had my sister; thus I stepped into my role as a brother.
School, work and many more ushered me into my role as a friend.
Helping at the LGBT center helped me into my role as an activist.
All serving me to be a better role model for the next generation.

“Last time I saw you. We had just split in two. You were looking
at me. I was looking at you. You had a way so familiar, But I
could not recognize, Cause you had blood on your face;
had blood in my eyes. But I could swear by your expres-
sion. That the pain down in your soul. Was the same as
the one down in mine. That’s the pain, Cuts a straight
line. Down to the hart; We called it love. ”

  2. This is an outstanding expression of "self" via writing. I enjoy the way you put this together in such a creative manner. The photos and words go together to form an overall message> I also like the quote and video you ended with. This is what good writing is--when the soul of the writer comes through. Well done//lm
